The Bank of Uganda (BoU) is the Central Bank of the Republic of Uganda. It was opened on the 15th August 1966. It is 100% owned by the Government of Uganda but it is not a government Department.
Bank of Uganda (BoU) and the International Growth Centre (IGC) have partnered on several occasions to host 'The Governor's Lecture Series'. The series began in 2015 as one of the public events to mark BoU’s Golden Jubilee. The lectures bring together leading scholars and policy makers to explore contemporary trends, issues, and solutions critical to sustainable growth and equitable development in Uganda and Africa.
To date, four lectures have been held; the first in November 2015 by Sir Paul Collier, on the topic “The role of the state in structural transformation”; the second in October 2016 by Douglas Gollin, on the theme “Agricultural Transformation and Urbanization: Challenges for Uganda”; the third in February 2017 by David Dollar, Ph.D., on the theme “How Africa can benefit from China’s economic rise” and the fourth in September 2018 by John Page, PhD, on the theme “Reconsidering the role of manufacturing in Africa’s structural change.”
